A new research program will look at modeling and measuring academic competencies as well as their preconditions and effects. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and led by the universities of Berlin and Mainz, ‘Modeling and measuring competencies in higher education (KoKoHs)’ aims to tackle in a valid and reliable way a subject that sets a high threshold for research methodology –especially in European higher education. Running from the end of 2011 until 2015, the program will strive to create a systematic framework for connecting different individual projects in several domains of higher education, for example engineering, teacher education in STEM subjects, psychology, sociology and economy.
